The Syracuse Crunch, along with Senator Charles E. Schumer and New York State, announced today that they will host the Mirabito Outdoor Classic, the American Hockey League’s first-ever outdoor game, on February 20, 2010, at the New York State Fairgrounds against the Binghamton Senators. The Syracuse Crunch announced today that former goaltender Karl Goehring has been named the club’s assistant coach. He will join head coach Ross Yates and assistant coach Trent Cull behind the Crunch bench.

Lake Erie goaltender Tyler Weiman made 28 saves for his third shutout in 15 appearances this season as the Monsters took a 4-0 road win over division-rival Syracuse on Saturday at the Onondaga County War Memorial.
Weiman improved to 3-0-1 in his last four decisions and 8-5-2 overall for the Monsters, who received a pair of goals from Marty Sertich in the victory.

Two knee surgeries cost Columbus goalie Steve Mason a chance to play in the Memorial Cup this past spring and continue his training over the summer, his first before turning pro.
“I wanted to come into training camp with the opportunity to make the team,” Mason told NHL.com, “but being injured, I didn’t have that opportunity.”
