Defenseman Jason Lepine notched two goals and added an assist as Rockford opened its preseason slate with a 4-0 shutout victory over cross-state rival Chicago at the Carlson Arctic Ice Arena in Loves Park, Ill., on Wednesday.

Goaltender Joe Palmer earned the shutout for the IceHogs, stopping all 20 shots he faced.

IceHogs sign blueliner Boyle for upcoming campaign

  Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced Thursday that the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League have signed defenseman Daryl Boyle to a one-year AHL contract.

The Sparwood, British Columbia native played the entire 2008-09 season with the Norfolk Admirals, posting 15 points (2g-13a) in 70 games and leading all Admirals rookies in scoring.

Pete MacArthur broke a 1-1 tie with 4:46 to play in regulation to give Rockford a 2-1 win over Milwaukee on Monday at the MetroCentre. MacArthur’s 10th goal of the season was assisted by Evan Brophey and Tim Brent, and it lifted the IceHogs into a tie with Peoria for third place in the West Division race. Iowa scored four times in the first period and added two more goals in the second en route to a 6-3 road win over Rockford at the MetroCentre on Monday, giving the Chops a sweep of the teams’ home-and-home set.
